德川幕府300年统治期间，佐渡出产的金银是政府财政的重要保证，被世人称为“御用金”。金子经过加工，经过千辛万苦才能运到江户，但在三天的路程中，暗礁狂流成为威胁运金船只的主要威胁。天保二年冬天，运金船在越前鲭江藩海上遇难，附近黑崎村村民拾得金银，但不久后全村人离奇消失。
